UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA ADVANCED COMPUTING RESEARCH CENTRE Postdoctoral Research Associates/Research Fellows (4) Fixed Term Appointments, 1-3 years. The Advanced Computing Research Centre (ACRC) is one of the University of South Australia's nine newly-endowed research centres. The ACRC encompasses three research groups based in the School of Computer and Information Science and is enjoying rapid growth in its research activity. The Centre is seeking to appoint four postdoctoral candidates with excellent research potential to participate in the following research projects. Concurrent Systems Research Group Formal Specification and Verification Environment Recent research has resulted in the development of the Circal System, a process algebra based formal verification environment used to rigorously specify and verify concurrent, finite-state systems. The successful applicant will be involved in the evolution of the System to enhance its performance and functionality by incorporating novel validation techniques. The System will be used to discover and analyse various asynchronous hardware design methodologies and to contrast them with synchronous design techniques. The project is funded by the ARC. Applicants should possess a background in at least one of the following: formal methods, concurrency, hardware description languages. This appointment is for a period of three years. Reference CS1. Highly Concurrent Simulation Architectures This ARC funded project involves the design of a novel simulation architecture based on Field Programmable Gate Array technology. This architecture, together with associated modelling techniques, will permit the rapid simulation and analysis of a class of highly-concurrent complex systems. These systems, which are computationally hard to simulate using von Neumann architectures, are characterised by being highly concurrent and include traffic systems and integrated circuits. Applicants should have a background in at least one of the following: computer architecture, computer systems design, concurrent and parallel systems. This appointment is for a period of two years. Reference CS2. Further information from Professor George Milne, Director, Advanced Computing Research Centre. Telephone: +61 8 302 3943. Facsimile: +61 8 302 3988. Email: george.milne@unisa.edu.au. Annual salary AUS$36,793 to AUS$43,134 depending on credentials. Preference will be given to candidates with a relevant Ph.D. and strong research record pertinent to the area of appointment. Interested applicants should address specific enquiries to the appropriate contact person.
