The Theoretical Computer Science and Computational Methods Area of the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center is recruiting for a postdoctoral position in algorithms for the 1995-1996 academic year.
The theory group at PARC is part of the larger Computer Science Laboratory, well known for over twenty years of influential basic research in computer systems. The theory group itself specializes in theory inspired by practical problems arising in graphics, physical simulation and modeling, and information retrieval. Ongoing research includes: work in triangulation and mesh generation, approximate searching, graph algorithms, partitioning and layout for parallel computation, sparse matrix algorithms, and approximation algorithms.
The unifying theme of our work is its emphasis on algorithms that find provably good solutions to hard problems arising in practice. The postdoc will be expected to interact closely with the regular area members, but will also be free to pursue his or her own research interests.
To apply please submit: a resume; a summary of research interests; and reprints of publications based on thesis and other research. Applicants are also responsible for requesting that three or more letters of reference be sent directly to us. To be assured of full consideration, all material including reference letters must arrive by March 17, 1995. Direct all material to:
