This conference, to be held in conjunction with the 12th Shanks Lectures, will highlight significant recent developments in modern algebra and its interdisciplinary interactions with logic, combinatorics and computer science. The aims of the conference are to bring together researchers working in a broad range of contemporary algebra and its applications, and provide a forum for the participants to meet and jointly explore unsolved problems of common interest in an informal atmosphere. The following areas will be emphasized.
Researchers in neighboring areas whose interests fit the general aims of the conference are encouraged to participate. The scientific program of the conference will consist of eight plenary hour lectures of general interest, and six special sessions each featuring an invited hour lecture and 30--minute contributed talks.
