  The Twenty-Eighth  ACM Symposium on Theory of Computing (STOC),
sponsored by the ACM Special Interest Group on Algorithms and
Computation Theory, will be held in Philadelphia, May 22--24, 1996.
Papers presenting original research on theoretical aspects of
computer science are sought.
  Typical, but not exclusive, topics of interest include algorithms and
data structures, complexity theory, computational algebra and geometry,
computational biology, cryptography, databases, machine learning,
algorithmic graph theory, applications of logic, parallel & distributed
computation, probabilistic computations, computer architectures and
robotics.
  *Submission.* Authors are encouraged to submit extended abstracts and
brief announcements electronically. A detailed description of the
electronic submission process is available on the Internet at the

  *Important Dates*
Submission : November 8, 1995* (abstract received, *firm* deadline)
Notification : January 12, 1996
Camera-ready : February 16, 1996, which is also a *firm* deadline.
  *Best Student Paper Award:* A prize of $500 will be given to the
author(s) of the best student-authored paper (or split between more
than one paper if there is a tie). A paper is eligible if all its
authors are full-time students at the time of submission. This must be
indicated in the submission cover letter.
  *FCRC'96:* STOC'96 participates in the 1996 Federated Computing
