                       Three Research Positions

  The Service de Mathematiques de la Gestion of the Universite Libre de
Bruxelles is the operations research department of the free university 
of Brussels. The department is seeking researchers for the following 
projects:
 1. Research  in traffic control (two year position). The objective of 
    the project is the implementation of an integrated traffic control 
    and users information system for urban corridors. Skills required:
     o  traffic modeling experience (esp. in dynamic & real time case);
     o  knowledge of optimization techniques (location models);
     o  knowledge of Automatic Incident Dection and of Variable Message
        System should be very appreciated.
 2. Research post in steel planning (two year position). Task of the
    researcher is to provide algorithms to solve 2 specific scheduling 
    problems of the steel industry and to make a first implementation
    of those methods in C++ on a Unix workstation. Skills required:
     o  modeling experience (preferably in an industrial environment);
     o  programming ability (C++ experience desirable);
     o  knowledge of current optimization techniques (mixed integer
        programming, heuristics, meta-heuristics).
 3. Research post in steel planning (one year position). Task of the
    researcher is to design and implement an improved algorithm to a 
    problem for which the modeling phase has already been carried out. 
    Experience required: programming in C++, optimization techniques.
