Logic Programming and the Internet

      Logic Programming and the Internet

             Opportunities and Challenges

A Compulog Net Workshop at Imperial College

       Imperial College, Deparment of Computing,
            180 Queen's Gate, London. SW7 2BZ
      http://www-lp.doc.ic.ac.uk/lp-internet.html

                 19-20 December 1996

  Description:

It can be argued that the Internet and WWW are bringing
about a paradigm shift in the nature of Computing, away
from stand-alone systems, built largely from scratch,
to distributed, highly interactive systems, that
achieve much of their power from the benefits they
receive from interacting with other such systems.

Logic programming seems to be well suited to meet the
needs of the new Computing. It is for this reason that the
workshop is being held, to explore the new opportunities
and challenges being opened for logic programming.

The workshop is organized by Bob Kowalski and Manuel
Hermegildo with the help of Jacinto Davila and Gerhard
  Wetzel.

  Speakers:

It is expected that the speakers will include:

  Manuel Hermenegildo

    Internet/WWW Programming using Computational Logic
    Systems

  Bent Thomson

    title to be announced

  Frank Kriwaczek

    title to be announced

  Chris Hogger

    title to be announced

  Keith Clark

Agent-based, distributed information retrieval on the
    Internet

  Thom Fruehwirth

Constraint logic programming on the Internet

(presenting work which started from the Munich Rent
    Advisor)

  Robert Kowalski

    On integrating heterogeneous knowledge sources

To see the abstracts of some of the talks, please
  access the workshop WWW page.

  Registration:

The workshop is open to anyone wishing to learn more
about LP on the Internet. It is intended primarily for
academics familiar with logic programming. However,
people working in industry are welcome. The programme
will include tutorials on HTML and other Internet
related matters, but not on logic programming. It is
expected that Compulog-net support will enable the
workshop to be held without a registration fee.

To register interest and for the latest details use
